Call for Week of Global Interfaith Dialogue, Sept. 1-7, 2003
April 15th, 2003 by sfuqua
We recently received a call for observance of a “Week of Global Interfaith Dialogue,” put out by an organization called the Global Family for Love and Peace. Perhaps this would be an ideal time for like-minded organizations the world over to convene meetings of dialogue and celebration, inviting the public and the media alike to participate in a global affair.
Dear Friend:
Global Family for Love and Peace is announcing the Week of Global
Interfaith Dialogue from September 1st-7th, the beginning of the
Culture of Peace month and the month of the United Nations International
Day of Peace. During this week communities around the world will
gather together for one day to engage in dialogue, sharing the values
common to all religious traditions. The day of dialogue can include
cultural events — music and art that exhibit each religions diverse yet
universal qualities.
The Week of Global Interfaith Dialogue will enable communities
around the world to begin the process of opening lines of communication
that can lead to better understanding and cooperation. In light of
current events, interfaith dialogue has become imperative, and these
efforts to foster a culture of peace instead of war need to be more
intensified and coordinated. Interfaith work that embraces both the
grass-roots level and the religious leadership offers solutions to
problems where political and diplomatic approaches have failed. The
global effort to initiate these dialogues in local communities will build
a critical mass of positive energy and focus, building the foundation to
view the world in a different perspective.
Through the dialogues and cultural events participants will gain a
greater understanding of our interconnectness and of our responsibility
for each other. Global Family for Love and Peace will provide guidance
for each dialogue, and the progress and culmination of each dialogue will
become part of the Global Family website for all to observe and share.
I look forward to speaking with you to explore ways in which we can work
together.
Warm regards,
Laurence Singer
