First Peace Pole Planted in Multan, Pakistan

During a very colorful ceremony first Peace Pole of the World Peace Prayer
Society was planted in the Southern Punjab, Pakistan. The ceremony of this planting
took place at the Pastoral Institute, Multan on 20th of February 2003. There
were over 150 believers of Islam, Christianity and Hinduism. They offered prayers
for peace and raised slogans such as: We want peace, Give peace a chance, Peace
is Possible, Yes to peace, No to war, Stop War, We love peace.

URI participation at the World Social Forum 2003

At the World Social Forum at Porto Alegre, Brazil from the 23rd to the 28th of January 2003, 100,000 people and 5,717 NGOs from 156 countries met in order to share ideas and projects for an alternative possible world. The Forum's interfaith program and space called Kairos
was co-coordinated by the United Religions Initiative, which was represented by its Brazilian community.

Eulogies for Joel Beversluis

On Tuesday March 18, 2003, Joel Beverluis passed out of this world after several months of struggling with cancer. He was a wonderful man who shall be dearly missed by his friends from around the world. We all wish his family the best and thank them for supporting his tireless efforts at promoting interfaith dialogue over the past ten years and more.
